Due to unforeseen weather warnings Union of Students in Ireland (USI) have made the decision to call off the #BreakTheBarriers protest today. If you want a refund for your bus ticket bring it to the SU office 10am-5pm Mon-Fri. Read more here

SU Charities – Volunteers Needed

This year we will be raising funds for Domestic Violence Response and AIDS West. If you want to get involved and help us to raise as much money as possible for these two great charities please contact studentsunion@nuigalway.ie We are also always looking for new fundraising ideas so if you have any suggestions please send them on! Remember all the time you spend volunteering with NUI Galway Students’ Union counts towards your ALIVE Volunteering Certificate application

Need help with Maths/Stats?

SUMS is a FREE service providing informal mathematics support to 1st and 2nd year students across all colleges and courses as well as to students engaged in Access/Foundation courses.

Need help with Computer Programming?

ComputerDISC is a FREE Computer Programming Drop-In Support Centre for all NUI Galway students who are taking any programming software development courses.

The Academic Writing Centre is a FREE service for NUIG students 

They can help you to:

  • Brainstorm your essay topic and outline
  • Structure an argument
  • Develop your thesis statement
  • Improve sentence structure and punctuation
  • Avoid plagiarism
  • Use secondary sources
  • Learn Editing and proofreading techniques

Child Protection Training

Do you work or volunteer with children/young people? Our Child Protection Training Course covers topics relevant to staff and volunteers working directly with children and young people. It covers policy, legislation, attitudes and values, definitions and signs of abuse, safe recruitment, code of behaviour and scenarios. The course cost is €15. Course takes place 9am-1pm Fri 6th Dec or 2pm-6pm Fri 6th Dec. Limited spaces left – sign up in the SU.

Voter Registration

Are you registered to vote? Call down and pick up a form in the SU Office. The deadline to register to vote is Friday the 25th of October.

Disclosure Training

Would you know what to do if a friend came to you saying they had suffered sexual violence? Our half day Disclosure Training course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to deal appropriately with a disclosure of sexual violence, in settings where this is likely to occur. The course is delivered by Galway Rape Crisis Centre 10am-1.30pm Tues 5th Nov and costs €10. Limited spaces left – sign up in the SU.

Student Leap Cards now just €10

To get your shiny new Student Leap Cards all you need to do is apply online HERE, then bring your code next week (it only lasts 7 days), your new college ID and €10 up to the SU Office. These are valid until the 31st of Dec 2020 and we can also top your card up for you.

Seas Suas Training Applications Open

Seas Suas is a bystander intervention training programme run by NUI Galway, which aims to promote the health & well-being of its students and wider community. The objective of Seas Suas is to increase awareness of situations where a person may need support, develop skills to respond safely, and encourage agency and initiative in helping fellow students. The Training takes place from 6:30pm-8:30pm on the four following Tuesdays of October: 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th. For more info contact jimmy.mcgovern@nuigalway.ie

Call for parents to take part in a survey on Children, Food and family Mealtimes

We would like to invite parents to take part in a research study that explores children’s eating and approach to food. We are interested in exploring what influences children’s approach to food. Parents are asked to take part in 3 surveys over 24 months. This survey is run by staff in the School of Psychology, NUI Galway.  Please follow the link here to complete the study.

Fundraising Gig in aid of Jigsaw Galway

At 8pm on Tues 8th of Oct there’s a fundraising gig in The Loft at Seven Bar in aid of Jigsaw Galway. It’s €10 in and performing on the night are: The New Ravis, Faraway Martin and Stepping on Lego.
