Bike Thefts
There have been an alarming number of bicycle thefts reported to Galway Gardaí in recent days with most of these thefts from the 3rd level institutions.
The following Crime Prevention Advice is advised:
•Spend 10% to 20% of the value of your bike on two locks.
•Use any provided safe bike parking facilities, and lock your bike tightly to an immovable object. The NUI Galway secure bicycle compound (see the Cycling Map for location) is located to the west of the Arts/Science Concourse Building. Anyone with a valid in date student / staff University ID card can access the compound. You must also swipe out.
•Keep the lock off the ground.
•Take a photo of your bike, note the serial number and email it to yourself so that you have a record of it.
•If there are no safe bike parking facilities lock your bike indoors or in well-lit areas if possible.
