Open all Summer

The SU Office is open all summer (except Bank Holidays) Monday-Friday 10am-12.30pm & 2pm-4.30pm. Call in for Student Leap Cards, free stuff and advice!

 

Locker Key Return Deadline next Fri 10th May

Just a quick reminder that your locker must be cleared out and key returned before 5pm on Friday 10th of May to the Students’ Union office in Áras na Mac Léinn. We’re open 10am-5pm Monday – Friday. Any items left in the locker after this date will be dumped, recycled or donated to charity. Lockers for 2019/20 will go on sale 10am Monday 2nd September on the SU Website. Voter Registration Deadline Tuesday

Reminder that the last chance to get registered to vote in the upcoming local/European elections and the Divorce Referendum is this Tuesday 7th of May. You completed application form stamped by a Garda must be submitted to your City/County Council by this date. If you’ll be in Galway city to vote on the 24th of May then you can call up to Galway City Council on Tuesday 10am-4pm and there’ll be a Garda there to stamp your form – just bring passport/driving licence.

 

SU AGM

The Students’ Union Annual General Meeting takes place 12pm-2pm Thursday 16th of May in the D’Aracy Thompson Theatre NUI Galway. All are welcome.

 

European Election Hustings

Meet and question the candidates running for the European Elections 12pm-2pm Wednesday 15th of May in the D’Arcy Thompson Theatre NUI Galway.

 

Summer Lockers

€10 summer lockers go on sale from the SU Office at 10am on Wednesday 15th May and will be available until Monday 19th August. 2019/20 Lockers go on sale 10am Monday 2nd of September via the SU Website.

Cake Sale Today

There’s a cake sale today 10am-12pm in the foyer of the Orbsen Building in aid of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and there will be some great raffle prizes too.

 

ALIVE Certificates

If you missed the ALIVE Certificate Award ceremony you can collect your certificate from the Socs Box 10am-7pm until Friday 10th of May or alternatively next September from the ALIVE office.

Applications Open UN Youth Delegate Programme

Applications are open for the United Nations Youth Delegate Programme for Ireland 2019 – 2020 which will support two young people aged between 18-25 years to join Ireland’s delegation to the United Nations in New York. Application deadline 5pm 19th May. More Info Here.

 

Darkness Into Light Sat 11th May

The Galway Darkness Into Light 5k walk/run takes place at 4.15am on Saturday 11th of May in Salthill and will raise funds to fight against the tide of suicide. Register here.

Public Meeting About Galway City Irish Language Plan

A public meeting about the Galway City Irish Language Plan will be held on Tuesday May 7th at 7.30pm in rooms G010 & G011, Hardiman Research Building, National University of Ireland, Galway. The meeting aims to provide another chance to people in Galway to give their opinions about the Irish Language Plan being prepared by NUI Galway on behalf of Galway City Council and Gaillimh le Gaeilge.  So that everyone can take part regardless of language background, two meetings will be held simultaneously, one in Irish and the other in English. All are welcome.

Free Concert 8pm Tomorrow

The Wind, String and Jazz ensemble from Thomas S. Hart Middle School from the USA will perform a free concert at 8pm tomorrow in the Town Hall Theatre and all are welcome. The Program will include Classical and modern works of Holst, Gershwin, Handel, Bernstien, Copland, Stevie Wonder, and John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

 

Colour Dash at NUI Galway

Registration is now open for the NUI Galway 5k Colour Dash in aid of the Irish Cancer Society at 11am on Sunday 9th of June

 

Run & Get Free Beer This Summer!

The free Galway Bay Brewery Running Club continues all summer long. Join them for a 5/8/10k run and get a free beer at the end! Their next event is 12.30pm Sunday 12th of May.

Calling all students and recent graduates who want to make a positive change in the world

STAND is looking for 30 students/recent grads to take part in our Ideas Collective summer project. The Ideas Collective will provide the tools to take an idea for social/environmental change and put it into action! Deadline for applications is May 10th. Apply here.

 

Exam Results & Repeats

Undergrad results are scheduled for release from 17th-24th of June. Postgrad results are scheduled for release Tues 2nd July.

Repeat exams will take place Tuesday 6th – Friday 16th of August and the fee for same is €295.

Copernicus Hackathon Ireland, 10th – 12th May

ICHEC (National Supercomputing Centre) host Ireland’s first Copernicus Hackathon in NUI Galway on May 10-12th 2019. Hackathon participants will be challenged to come up with solutions for real-world problems using Copernicus satellite data and will compete for a range of prizes for solutions which have commercial potential. Participants must be over 18 and a resident of the EU member states, Norway and Iceland. See here for more information and to register.

 

Cloakroom Open TODAY

The FREE SU Cloakroom is open today and tomorrow 9am-6pm.

 

SU Bookstore Collection Deadline Weds 15th May

Just a quick reminder that you must collect any books belonging to you which are still in the SU Second-hand Bookstore before 4.30pm on Wednesday 15th May. We cannot keep the books for you over the summer and any books which have not been collected by this date will be given away for free.

  • The Students’ Union Office will CLOSE at 5pm on Fri 3rd May and will reopen at 10am on Tues 7th of May
  • The Students’ Union Engineering Desk will CLOSE at 3pm on Fri 3rd of May and reopen at 11am on Tues 7th of May
  • The Students’ Union Cloakroom will CLOSE at 6pm Fri 3rd of May and reopen at 9am on Thurs 9th of May.
  • The James Hardiman Library will be open 08:30-21:00 Sat 4th, 10:00-21:00 Sun 5th and 08:30-22:00 Mon 6th May.
  • The Reading Room will be open as usual.
  • The Students’ Union Shop will be open 10am-4pm Sat 4th & Sun 5th and 9am-5pm Mon 6th of May.
  • Sult will be CLOSED Sat 4th, Sun 5th & Mon 6th May. Reopening 8.30am Tues 7th of May.
  • Caifé na Gaeilge is now CLOSED for the summer and will reopen in September.
  • Smokey’s Café will be open 9am-5pm Sat 4th, 10am-5pm Sun 5th and 9am-5pm Mon 6th of May.
  • The Wall Café will be open 9am-3pm Sat 4th, 11am-3pm Sun 5th and 11am-3pm Mon 6th of May.
  • The Student Health Unit will be CLOSED on Mon 6th of May.
