#NUIGSU21 Election Updates

  1. Full Time Officer Elections: Full Time Officer Election voting will take place 9am-9pm next Thurs 22nd April on our online election platform HERE and you will be able to vote in the Student Levy Referendum then too. We will be holding Hustings where you can meet and question your candidates next Tues 20th April with Flirt FM. The Sin Newspaper Election Special will be out on Tuesday too. Information on all the candidates will also be available on our online election platform.
  2. Part Time Officer Elections: Nominations are now open for the 14 Part Time Voluntary Officer positions on the SU for 2021/22. Nominations close at 5pm on Weds 21st of April. The Election will take place 9am-9pm Thurs 29th of April. You can nominate yourself HERE

Student Levy Referendum

Next Thurs 22nd April you will be asked to vote online in a referendum on whether or not you support the cancellation of the current Student Levy of €224 and approve its replacement with a new Student Levy of €140. We will be posting more information about the referendum and holding information sessions over the next week. Diversity Week Events Continue

  • 18:00 TODAY Thurs 15th April The History of Pride in Ireland. Speakers include: John O’Doherty (Rainbow Project – LGBT+ History in Northern Ireland),  Nuala Ward (LGBT+ History in Galway) and Sara Phillips (TENI – Trans History in Ireland). Exams

Nature Photo Competition

Take photos of the nature in your area and tag nuigsu on Instagram + use #NUIGNature for your chance to win SU Keep Cups and Reusable Water Bottles! Competition runs from Mon 19th April to Fri 30th of April 2021 and is open to all NUIG students and staff. In conjunction with NUIG Photography Society.

 

The NUIG Chase Fri 23rd April

We have teamed up with NUIG Law Society, FLAC Society and ELSA Society to put on an NUIG version of The Chase in aid of the SU Charities 6pm-8pm on Fri 23rd April. Our Quizmaster will be Paula Healy from Flirt FM and we have some great chasers lined up, some of whom you will be eager to battle against, but now we need players! Interested team players please complete this form, there are some exciting prizes up for grabs!

Collected Thoughts E-Zine

Collected Thoughts is a new e-zine, which focuses on how we interact with our landscape. Submissions are now open for the first edition: Lockdown & Landscape. Submissions are open for photography, poetry, prose, art and written reflections on interactions with the landscape throughout lockdown. NUI Galway Student Sustainability Leadership Awards 2021

Applications are now open for the NUIG Student Sustainability Leadership Awards 2021. Successful applicants will be offered an 8 week scholarship (June-August 2021) with the Community University Sustainability Partnership (CUSP) team to further the roll out of the NUI Galway Sustainability Strategy 2021-2025. The central aim of the awards programme is to develop student leaders that are dedicated and enthusiastic about creating a more sustainable and community. Varsity Sparks Student Entrepreneurship Competition – Team Speakeasy

We are delighted to acknowledge the Speakeasy team in their success over the weekend, finishing third place out of originally 75 contestants in the Varsity Sparks competition, awarding the team €1,000 in seed funding. A great achievement by the team consisting of three final year BSc Business Information Systems students Tara Gibney, Erin Hession and Eoin O’Malley. The team would like to share their gratitude to all those who voted and supported the team in their efforts.

 

Galway Community Café

Galway Community Café is a newly established out of hours adult mental health service. Whether struggling with stress and pressures of college, or needing a social outlet, we wanted to let the students of Galway know that the Galway Community Café is available for them. In line with current Covid-19 restrictions the café is open on a virtual basis. Galway City Mayor’s Awards for Volunteering Close Tomorrow

The annual awards will formally recognise the outstanding contributions that local volunteers, community groups and voluntary organisations have made in supporting the residents of Galway City during the past year. There’s a number of categories and the deadline to apply is 5pm Friday 16th of April.
