On Thursday 22nd April you will be asked to vote in a referendum on whether or not you support the cancellation of the current Student Levy of €224 and approve its replacement with a new Student Levy of €140

Student Levy Referendum

Last November, Comhairle Chomhaltas na Mac Léinn (SU Council) mandated the SU to call a referendum to reduce the student levy from €224 to €140. To call a referendum, we need 500 students to support the request for the referendum. If you wish to do so, please indicate your support to call a referendum at the link HERE. More information to follow closer to the referendum date.

 

FREE 6 Week Strength + Conditioning Course

We are delighted to have a final 6 week course of free live workouts with Lucia Byrne starting Monday 12th of April. The classes will be on at 5.30pm every Monday and Wednesday until 19th of May. We will be working the whole body using compound movements, it’s going to be fun and challenging. If you want to get stronger then this is the class for you! WRAP starts this Weekend

Do you wish to strengthen your well-being and resilience? WRAP® (Wellness Recovery Action Planning) is an evidence-based program which develops personalised tools to manage distress & promote a positive approach to maintaining wellness. Participants partake in four 2.5 hour sessions over two weeks, guided by a trained facilitator. Limited Spaces available for the upcoming WRAP® program year, beginning this Sat 10th April. Mature Students Drop-In Clinics

Weekly drop-In Clinics are available for all Mature Students. Here you can discuss issues, challenges, ideas, suggestions, and much more. Chinese Language Course

The Confucius Institute, NUIG, are offering a Chinese language beginners course (non-accredited) which will commence on the 27th April for 8 weeks. This course is suitable for beginners or those with some basic knowledge of Mandarin. It costs €120. More info HERE

 

Relay For Life Weds 14th April

NUIG Relay for Life next Weds 14th April is an event that brings together NUIG students, alumni, and members of staff, as well as people from the wider community to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society. Teams sign up for a small fee, hold a fundraiser, and just have a good time while raising awareness for cancer and remembering those lost to cancer. We are carrying on a relay for those who cannot do so themselves. Remembering those lost and giving strength to those still fighting. The event will be in collaboration with UCC and Trinity and there’s lots of prizes to be won.

I am final year BA Psychology student and am recruiting participants for my Final Year Project. EU Survey on Drug Trends

The HSE and Health Research Board have launched the EU Web Survey to explore current drug trends in Ireland. The survey is asking adults in Ireland aged 18 and over, who have used drugs in the last 12 months, to complete a survey that will help shape the future of drug policies and interventions. The survey aims to improve understanding of patterns of drug use in 30 countries. An examination of factors associated with intended contraception use in University students 

This study consists of a one-sitting survey questionnaire investigating the impact of several different factors which may contribute to the decision- making process regarding intention to use contraception in University students. Complete the survey HERE

 

Talk on Mindfulness

On Tuesday 13th April 7.30pm, the Galway Branch Of Arthritis Ireland will host ‘An Introduction to Mindful Practice for People Living With Arthritis With Sandra Healy’. Sandra Healy PhD, MTAI is a qualified mindfulness teacher and teaches the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course which is used for the management of chronic pain. Sandra will explore the history of mindfulness and give an introduction to mindful practices including some we will do together. Sandra will give insight on how to use such practices to build the capacity to be mindful in our everyday lives. Tickets HERE
