SU Outdoor Cinema this Monday

Our SU Outdoor Cinema is back (weather depending) at 8pm on this Monday 9th of September outside the Engineering Building. There will be FREE popcorn for the first 100 people and you can vote on our Facebook page for the film you want us to show.

 

Class Representatives

Every class is entitled to a Class Representative to represent their class. If your class does not have a Class Rep your voice will not be heard. If you have any questions on the roles and responsibilities of a Class Rep contact the SU Vice-President/Education Officer Cameron at su.education@nuigalway.ie. Further information regarding the role of Class Reps is also available here.

 

Lockers Selling Fast

You need to register at www.su.nuigalway.ie and pay online and collect your locker key from the SU Office 10am-5pm Monday-Friday. Please note if you’ve booked a locker in Áras Moyola or the Engineering Building you collect your key from the SU desk in the Engineering building 11am-3pm Monday-Friday.

 

Want to Join the Students’ Union Officer Team?

Applications open at 10am this Weds 11th Sept for the vacant SU Officer position of Postgraduate Taught Officer. Application forms will be available from the SU Office and SU Website and must be returned before 5pm on Weds 18th of Sept to the box in the SU Office. The election will take place on Thurs 26th of Sept.

 

Voter Registration

Are you registered to vote? We will be running Voter Registration days 12pm-2pm Tuesday 10th of September and Wednesday 18th of September at Smokey’s Café. Call down and get yourself registered or pick up a form in the SU Office. The deadline to register to vote is the 25th of October.

SU Freshers’ Fair Tuesday 17th September

The NUI Galway Students’ Union Freshers’ Fair is back with ALL THE FREEBIES! Call down to Áras na Mac Léinn 11am-4pm Tuesday 17th of September for giant inflatable games, food, freebies, tunes and competitions.

 

FREE Tickets: The Kinds of Sex You Might Have At College

The Kinds Of Sex You Might Have At College is a play about what you want, how you want it, if you want it and what happens when you don’t. It takes place 1pm & 5pm Thurs 12th & Fri 13th Sept and FREE tickets are available online here.

This play tackles experiences from across all genders, all relationships and all sexualities (or as many of them as we could fit into one hour). This play will equip you with a more proactive understanding of consent to apply to your future intimate encounters if you choose to have them.

Trigger warning: This performance contains language of a sexual nature and themes of sexual violence.

 

Clubs Day on Tuesday

There’s over 50 Sports Clubs at NUI Galway and you can join any/all of them for FREE at Clubs Day in the Sports Centre 10am-5pm next Tues 10th Sept.

 

Introduction to the Library

Get to grips with the library with their quick and free intro sessions. They run for the next 2 weeks 12pm-12.40pm Mon-Fri. More info HERE.

Societies Day takes place 10am-5pm Weds 11th Sept in Áras na Mac Léinn. Call down and meet all the societies that want to be your new best friends. We will be there too!

Comedy Hypnotist Tickets On Sale Now!

NUI Galway Students’ Union presents Comedy Hypnotist Barry Jones at 8pm on Mon 23rd of Sept in the O’Flaherty Theatre. Tickets are €5 and are on sale now from EVENTBRITE HERE.  

 

Student Leap Cards now just €10

To get your shiny new Student Leap Cards all you need to do is apply online HERE, then bring your code next week (it only lasts 7 days), your new college ID and €10 up to the SU Office. These are valid until the 31st of December 2020 and we can also top your card up for you.

 

Research Study Participants Required

We are looking for healthy individuals, aged 18 to 30, to complete a questionnaire, have screening bloods taken and undergo a bone marrow aspiration. Expenses paid. Contact veronica.mcinerney@nuigalway.ie with name, address and phone number.

 

Beer Run this Sunday

The Galway Bay Brewery Running Club is the only free running club that gives you a free beer for your efforts! Join them this Sunday at 12.30pm for their monthly 5/10k run.

 

Culture and Leadership Tech Talk with Rent the Runway

On Weds 11th Sept, join Rent the Runway at the Portershed for a tech talk on lessons from working in microservices to be followed by a session on culture and leadership. Both sessions give an opportunity to meet the Rent the Runway team based in Galway, which is the location of their European Headquarters, and learn more about the company and current vacancies.
