SU Irish Classes
Want to learn Irish or improve the Irish you have? We will be holding Irish Language Classes Tues 12th Jan – Tues 2nd Feb 2021. It’s a 4 week course over Zoom with Conradh na Gaeilge. Complete Beginners 6pm-7pm and Improvers 7pm-8pm. Cost is €40 but you will be refunded €20 if you attend all classes and you get a certificate. Extra Study Space
There are now three options for study space on campus, which can all be booked through the Library booking system:
- The Library: Desk and PC access within a quiet study zone in the main Library building
- Bailey Allen Hall: Quiet study zone with space for 50 students
- The Cube: Noise-tolerant study zone with space for 20 students

International Day of People with Disabilities Today
Today is International Day of People with Disabilities (#IDPD20) and NUIG are encouraging all staff and students to wear purple to mark the day! There’s also a photo competition #NUIGtogether HERE. Tomorrow Friday there’ll be our weekly Disability Rights Clinic with NUIG SU Disability Rights Officer Trish on Zoom.

This December for our Charity Challenge we are going to spread positivity wherever we go with our Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Challenge. We will have daily suggestions for Random Acts of Kindness that you can do or you can come up with your own ones. The RAK challenge motto is do good, feel good! You can commit to taking part in as many RAKs as you want from 1 to 30 over the month! All funds raised during the challenge will go to the SU Charities who are: Galway Rape Crisis Centre, Galway Autism Partnership and Helplink Mental Health via our fundraising page HERE.

Glassary – Sustainability Initiative for Students
Are you an international student departing Ireland in the coming months? Or are you simply an NUI Galway student who’d like to live more sustainably? Glassary (glas/green-glossary!) is a circular economy initiative which will be implemented at NUIG accommodations in December and January. Donate your leftover household items at an accommodation collection point to prevent them from going to waste! Hardiman PhD Scholarship Scheme Open
Applications are now open for the 2021 Hardiman PhD Scholarships scheme for new PhD Students starting Sept 2021. The Hardiman PhD Scholarships are fully funded for four years; with a stipend of €16,000 per annum, plus fees are paid for the 4 years. Applications close 12th Feb. More info.
Social Media Study Participants needed
If you agree to participate, you can win 1 of 3 Amazon gift cards of €50. The purpose of this study is to examine how social media news impacts people. It will take approximately 20 minutes, and 18+ and good command of English required; otherwise, it is open to everyone. Take part HERE.

Weekly drop-In Clinics are available for all NUIG Mature Students. Here you can discuss issues, challenges, ideas, suggestions, and much more. The clinics are hosted by your SU Mature Students’ Officer Michelle Mitchell on Zoom and are on 10am-12pm Tuesdays and 2pm-4pm Thursdays (links below). - Helplink Mental Health is a charitable organisation providing accessible counselling, information and education mental health services locally (West of Ireland), nationally and internationally.
