Hygiene Hub Drive Tomorrow

Our last Hygiene Hub Donation Drive of the year is 10am-5pm tomorrow Fri 26th April at the SU Office! We’re looking for new, unused, in-date personal care + household cleaning essentials – including deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, make-up, nappies, toilet roll, laundry detergent + surface cleaner.

 

Galway Simon Community Donation Day Tomorrow

Doing a clear out/moving out? Donate to the Galway Simon Community Collection Day 11am-3pm tomorrow Fri 26th April in The Large Acoustic Room downstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn

  • What they CAN’T take: CDs / DVDs. Electrical Equipment, Children’s + Baby Equipment, Flooring, Toys, Duvets/Pillows, Mattresses, Curtain Poles, Exercise Equipment
  • What they CAN take: Clothing, Sheets, Duvet/Pillow Covers, Towels, Hats, scarfs and gloves, All types of shoes, Books but not college books, Kitchen utensils, Jewellery, Jigsaws and boxed games

 

Voter Registration Drive

Join us 12pm-2pm Tuesday 30th April in the SU Síbín for our Voter Registration Drive. The deadline to register to vote in the Local and European elections is Monday 20th of May. You can also log on to www.checktheregister.ie to register to vote or amend your details.

 

We are Hiring: Peer Learning Graduate Intern

We’re looking for a friendly, energetic and goal-oriented Graduate Intern to support our CÉIM academic peer learning programme. This is a varied role in which the successful candidate will be required to work closely with diverse partners including students and academic staff to help ensure the effective delivery of CÉIM. Contract duration: Mid-August 2024 – Mid-May 2025 Working days: Monday-Friday (7 hours per day) at University of Galway. Closing date 5pm Thurs 9th May. More info HERE.

 

Locker Key Return Deadline Fri 3rd May

The deadline to return your locker key is 5pm Friday 3rd of May. Please return your locker key to the SU Office upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn (you can leave the lock on your locker!). Items left in lockers after the deadline will be recycled, donated to charity or disposed of.

 

MEP Candidates Hustings (Midlands North West)

Join us at 6.30pm on Monday 20th of May in The View upstairs in Áras na Mac Léinn to meet the MEP candidates hoping to win your votes in the Midlands North West constituency. Tickets are free but limited so sign up now via Eventbrite HERE.

 

Mobile Phones in Exams

REMINDER: You can bring your mobile phone in to your exam BUT they must be turned off completely going into the exam venue and left on the desk turned off.

 

Glassary 

Glassary Recycling Initiative Fri 26th April to Friday 4th May in the Goldcrest Village Common Room. Pass on lightly used homewares to charities, fellow students and the community.

  • What they CAN accept: Clothes, shoes, towels. Hygiene + Menstrual products. Decor, home and kitchenware. Unopened food. Working/non-working electronics. Cleaning + laundry products. Books/Stationary
  • What they CAN’T accept: Heavily used clothes. Duvets/mattress protectors. Opened foods. Underwear/socks/rubbish

Summer Holiday Arrangements

  • The SU Cloakroom + Síbín will be closing for the summer at 7pm on Weds 1st May.
  • The SU Office will be open throughout the summer 10am-12.30pm + 2pm-4.30pm Monday-Thursday and 10am-2pm Friday. Closed Bank Holidays.

 

Summer Lockers

Summer Lockers go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 8th May HERE. Summer Lockers are €10 and they have to be emptied and keys returned by Friday 16th of August 2024. Lockers for 2024/25 year go on sale 10am Monday 2nd September 2024.

 

Exam Results + Repeats

  • Exam Result Release dates are HERE
  • Result consultation days details are HERE – this is a chance to meet your lecturer to discuss your results and must be booked in advance.
  • Information on result appeals is HERE and result rechecks is HERE
  • Repeat/Autumn exams take place 6th-16th August (Timetable published Thurs 11th July). Repeat exam fee €195.

 

Student Sustainability Leadership Awards programme 2024

Thanks to all the students that applied to the Student Sustainability Leadership Awards programme 2024. Internships were awarded two University of Galway students: Molly Hickey and Peter O’Neill. Molly and Peter will each receive a €4,000 prize and participate in an 8-week internship with the University of Galway Sustainability Office this Summer. Congratulation to all the students that participated.

SUSI Applications are open for 2024/25 Academic Year

  • Priority closing date for renewal applications is 6th June 2024
  • Priority closing date for new applications is 11th July 2024

You can still apply after these deadlines but your application will not be prioritised. You need to renew your SUSI application each year – it’s not an automatic process.

 

Story Circle: Developing Intercultural Competencies 

University of Galway students are invited to sign up for Developing Intercultural Competencies free workshops. These are taking place 5.30pm-7.30pm Weds 1st of May and Thurs 16th of May in the ILAS building, University of Galway. Registration and more info HERE.

 

Seeking volunteers interested in supporting mental health and well-being at the University

On Weds 19th June, the PhD-led Peer Support Group for early-career researchers is hosting “Wednesday Well-being Symposium: Cultivating resilience, fostering peer support, and nurturing community among early-career researchers at the University of Galway”. They’re looking for student volunteers who are interested in delivering a 10 to 20-minute positive and uplifting workshop around the theme of mental health and well-being. There’s a small budget for materials from the EDI Project Fund. For more info email L.hayman1@universityofgalway.ie

COPE Galway are looking for participants to complete a short 11 question survey HERE to gather information on the public’s knowledge of COPE.

Tá NStEP ag lorg mic léinn díograiseacha, sochaideartha agus nuálacha le bheith páirteach ina bhfoireann chun oiliúint a sholáthar ar fud na tíre in 2024/25. Is é an spriocdháta iarratais ná 5i.n. Ligeann an Cárta Eorpach um Árachas Sláinte (EHIC) duit cúram sláinte a fháil thar lear saor in aisce, nó ar chostas laghdaithe, má tá tú ar saoire; ar fhanacht gearrthéarmach nach faide ná 3 mhí nó ag staidéar thar lear – beidh tú clúdaithe don bhliain acadúil. Déan iarratas ANSEO.
