Exhibits in this on-campus museum will be allocated a Quick Response (QR) code, allowing visitors to scan the codes with their smartphones and access bilingual information on the exhibits. The project aims at improving the experience of both campus-based and external visitors to the museum.

Project Update – 31 January 2014:
- A second status review of the project group was held on Wednesday, January 29th and the up-to-date position of the project is as follows:
- Data related to the chosen museum exhibits continues to be mined by the student partners. It was agreed that this will be subject to a “Quality Review” within the next 3 weeks to ensure:
(a) the integrity of the information provided and
(b) to assist in deciding on the levels of information to be presented so as to appeal to a wide spectrum of visitors.
- Discussions took place on- site in January with a Graphic designer, aimed at providing an appropriate template to be used for displaying the information relating to the exhibits on the web pages. The designer was made aware of the University requirements governing these and will revert with samples for appraisal.
- Arrangements have been put in place to enable our student partners to learn how to populate the chosen templates with the information for the exhibits.
- On-going discussions with Acadamh na h-Ollscoile suggest that it is unlikely we will be able to incorporate any of Eamon de Buitléar’s archival material into our project as hoped. It appears that the archive is coming into the University in pieces which must subsequently be examined and digitised before becoming available to us. The time involved may remove this part of our plan from present scope.
Project Update – 29 November 2013
- A preliminary meeting of the project group was held on Wednesday, Nov. 27th.
- Discussions took place in relation to the goals and objectives to be achieved and the timelines associated with these were laid out.
- Some reshaping of the timelines was agreed in order to allow for end-of-term exam schedules which impacted on what was initially proposed. While staff and student partners are anxious to get up and running with the project, we all recognise that the exams are a priority but are confident that we can pick up quickly after they are finished.
- Agreement was also reached on the sources of information to be mined in the collation of the information and images that will be used in association with each of the QR coded specimens.
- We are ready to move once term exams are over.
