SU Charity Collection Day
This Saturday 6th of February we can’t hold our usual collection day on the streets of Galway for the SU Charities due to Covid restrictions. Instead we are asking everyone to please share our online fundraising page and ask all your friends and family to donate what they can to the SU Charities. About the SU Charities:
- Galway Autism Partnership supports families and individuals affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Galway Rape Crisis Centre is dedicated to providing a professional, caring and confidential counselling and support service for those in our community affected by sexual abuse and sexual violence
- Helplink Mental Health is a charitable organisation providing accessible counselling, information and education mental health services locally (West of Ireland), nationally and internationally.

This is not the type of bingo your granny would go to! Our Sex Toy Bingo is back at 7.30pm on Fri 19th Feb for SHAG Week. There’s loads of sex toy prizes up for grabs and our host is comedian Steve Bennett so the craic will be had. The event is free but there’s a suggested donation amount of €5 which will all go to the SU Charity Fund supporting Galway Rape Crisis Centre, Galway Autism Partnership and Helplink Mental Health. Anti-Racism Workshop / Ceardlann Frithchiníochais
This free workshop will be delivered online over two evenings 6pm-8pm Mon 15th and Thurs 18th of Feb. Day 1 looks at “How to Be An Ally: Self-Awareness, Anti-Racism and Effective Allyship” and Day 2 is the “Beginner’s Guide to Changing the World”. More info HERE. Postgrad Údarás Election Result
Congratulations to Sebastiaan Bierema on being elected as the Postgraduate representative on Údarás na hOllscoile. Seb is the current Students’ Union Postgraduate Research Officer and he was elected on the first count in yesterday’s election.
Flirt FM Wall Planners for Semester 2
Flirt FM have now left copies of their new planner for collection in the foyer of the library and also at the Post Room on campus (next door to the Student Registry Helpdesk). If you are not near campus you can also download and print off a copy from the link here.
Blackboard Ally improves the accessibility of learning materials by allowing users to download documents in multiple formats. Since its launch, students and staff have downloaded over 50,000 files in alternative formats with just one click from the NUIG Blackboard site. The Inclusive Learning project team wants to hear about your experience with alternative formats via Blackboard Ally. Please complete their quick survey HERE

Mature Students Drop-In Clinics
Weekly drop-In Clinics are available for all Mature Students. Here you can discuss issues, challenges, ideas, suggestions, and much more. The clinics are hosted by your SU Mature Students’ Officer Michelle Mitchell on Zoom and are on 10am-12pm Tuesdays and 2pm-4pm Thursdays (links below). Survey about College Students and the Food Pyramid
The goal of this research by a student from St Angela’s College in Sligo is to find out more about the food and drink choices of undergrad college students and what are the factors influencing those choices. You can complete the short survey here
EMpower is an event which aims to empower, encourage, inspire and motivate students from ethnic minorities to put themselves forward for leadership positions in their Students’ Union, clubs and societies on campus or any other positions of influence. Sexual Health West offers free protection packages including condoms, lubricant and sexual health information to anyone in need of protection! Simply reach out to Sexual Health West at info@sexualhealthwest.ie or on Social Media with your name and address and a discreet free package will be delivered to your door within a couple of days. This is an ongoing service that can be availed of again and again!
