Feel Good Fair + Pop Up Charity Shop Today! 

Call down to Áras na Mac Léinn 11am-3pm today Thurs 10th Oct for the Feel Good Fair + Pop Up Charity Shop! Call down to meet the Irish Guide Dogs, Joe.ie, Active* Consent, Seas Suas, the Counselling Service, the Chaplaincy and of course your Students’ Union will be there too! There’ll also be a Bake Sale in aid of the SU Charities (Galway Rape Crisis Centre and Galway Autism Partnership) arranged by 1st year podiatric medicine students and a Pop Up Charity Shop with Galway Simon Community in the Cube.

Hallows Tickets Selling Fast! 

Tickets for Galway’s biggest Halloween student event, Hallows, on Thursday 31st October are selling fast HERE. Headline acts include Fionn Curran, Franck, Camrinwatsin, Datsko, AMY101 and more to be announced! This is Ireland’s largest Halloween event with over 2,500 students so you don’t want to miss out! Just announced we will have €500 CASH to give away in prizes for the best costumes at Hallows! So get planning your costume and don’t forget to get your ticket HERE.

EcoCafé Tomorrow 

The EcoCafé will take place 1.30pm tomorrow Fri 11th Oct in An Séipéal/The Chapel. This is a judgement free confidential space where you can voice your concerns about environmental issues with others.

Walkout 11.30am Thursday 17th October 

Next Thursday 17th of October at 11:30am thousands of students from colleges and universities across the country are walking out of their lectures to protest the systemic underfunding and lack of care for students in higher education. We are asking all students to walk out of their lectures and to assemble at the Big Yellow Thing opposite the Library. There is an election coming and we need to show the government that students are fed up and need to be listened to. For more info please contact su.president@universityofgalway.ie

Life Skills Update

National Academic Integrity Week 

National Academic Integrity Week takes place 14th-18th October and we’re running a TikTok Competition using the #AcademicIntegrityGalway with loads of cool prizes to be won find more info here. Our Cheat Code: Unlocking Academic Integrity event is on 2pm-3pm Thurs 17th Oct in the Moore Room in the Hardiman Building (G-010). For this event we’re asking what does academic integrity mean to you! What do you do to uphold academic integrity in your own work? Meet your Academic Integrity Staff, Library Staff, and the Student Enquiry Centre! We’ll also be showcasing our TikTok Competition entries and prizes such as a hoodie, tote bag and reusable mugs. Financial Aid Fund

The Funds  are intended to tackle disadvantage by providing financial support to enable students fully benefit from their third level studies. There are 4 funds open for applications:

  • HEAR/Access Fund
  • Means Tested Fund
  • International Student Emergency Hardship Fund
  • Emergency Hardship Fund (Irish and EU)

Do you wish to strengthen your well-being and resilience this semester? 

Taking Action for Whole Health and Wellbeing is a free program which develops personalised tools to manage distress & promote a positive approach to maintaining wellness. It’s for anyone who would like to make a positive change in their life. The Student Health Unit will be hosting this course with trained facilitators on campus this Sat 12th + Sun 13rd Oct. National PPI Festival event: Fri 18th Oct Empowering Youth Voices

Join PPI Ignite Network @ University of Galway and D1 Now in this online seminar 2.30pm-4pm Fri 18 Oct showcasing international examples of PPI excellence in the realm of health research for young people and young adults. The event aims to demonstrate the impact of youth participation in research, sharing insights from young people’s experiences of participation and exploring the challenges faced by researchers in managing long-term youth advisory boards. This event is open to everyone and you can register HERE.

Volunteers Needed 

Galway Rape Crisis Centre need volunteers to help at their annual flag day and bucket collection in Galway 10am-6pm Thurs17th October, on Shop Street and Eyre Square. If you can spare anytime to help that day please email development@grcc.ie

1st Year Orientation Feedback

First year undergraduate orientation included a web welcome (for some courses) and campus welcome days on 12 + 13 Sept. Whether you attended or not the University are interested in hearing from you. They want to know what worked and what didn’t, so that they can improve the areas that need to be improved. Complete the survey HERE by 16 Oct and enter your details to be in with a chance to win a €50 SU card.

Need someone to talk to at the weekend?

Galway Community Café is a free out-of-hours adult mental health café that provides peer support to people in a supportive non-clinical space. It’s located in Mr Waffle opposite the University Hospital Galway is open 6.30pm-11pm Thursday-Sunday. More info + booking link HERE.
