Students’ Union Raises €11,000 for Charity
NUI Galway Students’ Union today presented the proceeds of their year of fundraising events to Galway Rape Crisis Centre and BeLonG To Youth Services. The unique charity events held throughout the academic year raised a total of €11,000 for the two charities.
Events held over the year included a giant Christmas Raffle, a Taylor Swift night, saucy Sex Toy Bingo, charity Take Me Out, table quizzes, and a Sports Day. There were also charity book, cake and clothes sales. The challenges helped the NUI Galway community to stay active and engaged whilst raising funds for two great causes.
Students’ Union President Róisín Nic Lochlainn said: “The response to our year of fundraising events was fantastic and it helped us all feel connected as a campus. NUI Galway students have a very proud tradition of raising money for charities and they have excelled themselves again this year.”
Students’ Union Vice-President/Education Officer Clodagh McGivern added: “In what has been a stressful academic year it’s great that the students of NUI Galway have put such a huge effort in to raising funds to help others. We are delighted to be presenting €11,000 to these two amazing charities who do so much for those in need. To have raised so much is a great achievement for all involved.”

Dúirt Clodagh McGivern, Leasuachtarán de chuid an Chomhaltais/an tOifigeach Oideachais: “Cé gur bliain acadúil strusmhar a bhí ann, is iontach an rud é go ndearna mic léinn OÉ Gaillimh a seacht ndícheall airgead a bhailiú le cabhrú le daoine eile. Tá ríméad orainn €11,000 a bhronnadh ar an dá charthanas iontacha seo a thugann cúnamh nach beag do dhaoine in am an ghátair. Is éacht ollmhór é gur éirigh leo siúd a bhí páirteach an méid sin airgid a thiomsú.”
