USI Congress is the annual meeting of students and student union officers from across the country to discuss students issues and debate motions which will determine the priorities of USI and it’s member organisations. Marchathon FINAL Week!

Here’s the ways to win in the final week of the Marchathon which finishes this Sun 28th of March! Don’t forget to log all team members steps by 2pm Mon 29th March.

  • Teams that reach a weekly Team Average of 85,000 steps will be entered into a Prize Draw. This equates to approximately 12,100 steps per person per day.
  • For the final week of Marchathon we want to see you have fun and embracing the opportunity to connect once more with your Team Members. If it’s a photo collage, a selfie or even a screenshot of your walking virtual meeting, the only rule this week is we want to see you SMILE! To win, submit your smiling Team photo via our Marchathon Competition Entry Form by Mon 29th March at 2pm.
  • This week’s Limerick is all about your individual Marchathon journey and should include the word ‘change’. This competition is for individual entries only. For a chance to win, submit your Limerick via our Marchathon Competition Entry Form by 2pm on Fri 26th March.

5 A Day for Mental Health Workshops

We have teamed up with Jigsaw to bring you this free 1 hour workshop which aims to provide young adults, aged 17 – 25 in third level educational settings, with the strategies necessary to build and take care of their own mental health. The workshop takes place 5.30pm-6.30pm Mon 29th March via Zoom. More info and sign up here.

Library LibQual Survey – Win a Phone!

The Library conducts a yearly survey so that the Library can be benchmarked against other similar libraries in Ireland, the UK, and further afield. This year’s LibQual survey is now open and it would be appreciated if you would take a few minutes to complete. You may choose to submit your name and enter a draw for a phone. Survey Link

 

Open Educational Resources (OER) for Students Event 3pm Thurs 1st April

This event talks about, and discusses, what OER are, why OER are good for students, and how you can get involved in OER creation. Also, we let you know about the OER grant scheme where applications are strongly encouraged from students as authors or co-creators. 20% of the OER grant scheme fund is ring-fenced for student applications. We also discuss the detail of the NUI Galway OER Grant scheme which is now open for applications from NUI Galway staff and students, with a deadline of 12 April 2021. The OER project and the OER grant scheme are funded the NUI Galway Student Project Fund. OER are free (for example, no cost textbooks) instructional materials anyone can create or customise for their own learning, teaching, or research. OER have the potential to offset the cost of educational materials and allow instructors to adapt them to suit their teaching approach. More info and tickets HERE

USI Connecting Creatives event tomorrow

Connecting Creatives – the networking and training event aimed at Creative Arts students will take place tomorrow Friday 26th March from 1.30pm-5.30pm and registration is now open. The registration form is here. It’s open to all students but particularly aimed towards creative arts students. Sessions will include topics like Promoting Yourself Online and Taxes & Finance Tips for Creative Professionals. There will also be a panel of recent creative arts graduates sharing their own experiences.

Third-level students’ response to COVID-19 in Ireland

The aim of this study is to investigate how 3rd level students in Ireland are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by investigating students’ risk perception and preventive behaviours. How does our society and its leaders learn from and respond to global challenges?

Irish Aid is developing a new Strategic Plan for 2021 to 2024, and wants to hear from young people aged 16 to 30. On April 7th 3-6pm they will be hosting an online consultation for young people. More info and registration HERE
