Building on recent community research with Rape Crisis Network Ireland (RCNI), this pilot project will design and pilot materials and procedures for workshops on consenting sex for university students.
Based on group discussion of realistic (but hypothetical) scenarios, the workshop materials will engage students to explore their understandings, attitudes and practices related to consent. Uniquely, undergraduate and postgraduate students in Psychology and Social Marketing will collaborate as equals with experts in sex research, advocacy, drama studies, and health promotion. The workshop materials will have relevance to all third level students. The team will seek to roll-out and implement their project through partnership with Students’ Unions / Student Services at NUI Galway/GMIT and hopefully other institutions. At a later date, the project could potentially be adapted for Youthreach and secondary school students through design of age-appropriate workshops.

Project Updates
[accordion] [accordion_item title=’Update 1 – February’]
We are awaiting the results of a IRC New Foundations grant proposal submitted to fund an expansion of our EXPLORE project, which will allow us to do further piloting and link with other third level institutions. We have also linked with Student Services with a view to informing the Seas Suas bystander intervention programme that is under development.
