Anti-Racism Workshop

This workshop will take participants through a lively, engaged process looking at how racism functions, where it came from and what we can do to build a more equal society, locally and globally. Previous participants have described the workshop as “thought provoking” “a total eye-opener” and “inspiring”. The workshop is just €5 and takes place 10am-1.30pm Mon 4th Nov.

Threesis Registration open until 18 Oct

Threesis is the training programme and competition which helps NUI Galway’s research students communicate their research to the general public. Threesis challenges all research students (Undergraduate, Masters, MD and PhD) at NUI Galway to participate.  There is free training and the opportunity to practice your skills in our heats. You get 3 slides, 3 minutes and 3 judges and there’s €1,500 in prizes to be won.

Misleór’ – Festival of Nomadic Cultures 10-12 Oct

Misleór‘ is Galway’s inaugural festival celebrating the rich heritage of nomadic cultures. In a unique collaboration between the Galway Traveller Movement, the local Traveller community, artists and community activists, the 3-day event (10-12 Oct) will showcase music, art, film, theatre and poetry from a variety of nomadic cultures. Through the lens of creativity and cultural action for change, the festival will evoke important social dialogue about ethnic nomads and the barriers, prejudice and discrimination that they often face.

Child Protection Training

Do you work or volunteer with children/young people? Our Child Protection Training Course covers topics relevant to staff and volunteers working directly with children and young people. It covers policy, legislation, attitudes and values, definitions and signs of abuse, safe recruitment, code of behaviour and scenarios. The course cost is €15. Course takes place 9am-1pm Fri 6th Dec or 2pm-6pm Fri 6th Dec. Limited spaces left – sign up in the SU.

Beer Run this Sunday

The Galway Bay Brewery Running Club is the only free running club that gives you a free beer for your efforts! Join them this Sunday at 12.30pm for their monthly 5/8/10k run.

SU Charities – Volunteers Needed

This year we will be raising funds for Domestic Violence Response and AIDS West. If you want to get involved and help us to raise as much money as possible for these two great charities please contact studentsunion@nuigalway.ie We are also always looking for new fundraising ideas so if you have any suggestions please send them on! Remember all the time you spend volunteering with NUI Galway Students’ Union counts towards your ALIVE Volunteering Certificate application

Disclosure Training

Would you know what to do if a friend came to you saying they had suffered sexual violence? Our half day Disclosure Training course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to deal appropriately with a disclosure of sexual violence, in settings where this is likely to occur. The course is delivered by Galway Rape Crisis Centre 10am-1.30pm Tues 5th Nov and costs €10. Limited spaces left – sign up in the SU.

Student Leap Cards now just €10

To get your shiny new Student Leap Cards all you need to do is apply online HERE, then bring your code next week (it only lasts 7 days), your new college ID and €10 up to the SU Office. These are valid until the 31st of Dec 2020 and we can also top your card up for you.
