Comhaltas na Mac Léinn Ollscoil na Gaillimhe Statement on Anti-Semitism (voted on in SU Executive Committee 20/11/23)

University of Galway Students’ Union are deeply concerned with the rise of antisemitism which we have seen on campus and in our community in general. We acknowledge that this rise in hate for the Jewish community may stem from individuals and groups misunderstanding or being uneducated on the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

We, the Union, support and represent all of our student body, regardless of ethnicity, race, religion or any other minority background. We condemn all forms of hate and wish to highlight the large difference between the Jewish community and the Israeli Government as a political body. We do not tolerate any form of antisemitism or discrimination based on religion or faith. We urge all of our student body to become educated on the ongoing genocide, through credible sources and media, such as Amnesty International.

Supports and services are open to all students, and we encourage any student who has experienced discrimination or hate to reach out for support, and to report the incident on the anonymous reporting tool, SpeakOut. We welcome the Jewish community in the University of Galway and strive to help and represent all students.
