Raise and Give Week Firewalk
Firewalking? What’s that?
Yes, it’s all about walking on fire! The Firewalk is an age-old ritual for bringing about change and transformation, breaking through fears and bringing fresh energy into your life. A Firewalk gives you the opportunity to experience your own courage and potential in an exhilarating event. All that, and you can make a huge difference by raising funds for the SU Charities: Galway Rape Crisis Centre and Cancer Care West.
When is the firewalk?
The Raise and Give Week Firewalk will take place from 6.30pm on Monday 12th of February 2024 in the Quad at University of Galway.
What happens at a firewalk?
Registration will take place 6pm-6.30pm and the event will finish up around 10.30pm. After introductions, we will light the fire together, and the evening’s magic begins! While the fire transforms itself into glowing hot coals, we will spend the evening working with a range of techniques and activities prepare you for the firewalk. The grand finale is of course the act of walking over the red hot coals – an experience you will remember for the rest of your life!
Isn’t it dangerous?
Firewalking is a metaphor for life. When we step forward to do something we’ve never done before, we run the risk of discomfort, disappointment, or even pain. The firewalk instructor leading you through the workshop has participated and led countless firewalks over the last 20 years, with thousands of participants, and it is very rare for anyone to experience anything more uncomfortable than an occasional small blister (or ‘fire kiss’). However, the power of the firewalk lies in the fact that it is an inherently risky activity, and the power of your experience partly hinges on your willingness to take a risk in order to make a change and experience a new reality. You will be asked to sign a liability waiver form as part of the workshop, and will be taking responsibility for your own choices and wellbeing. Everyone decides for themselves whether to walk the fire, and when to do so, so be assured that you will not be coerced into doing anything that doesn’t feel right to you.
