University of Galway Students’ Union seeks a dynamic, focused and solution-oriented Engagement Coordinator with experience of peer learning to support its CÉIM academic peer learning programme. The successful candidate will support CÉIM student leaders to reach their full potential, work closely with diverse partners, and develop engaging marketing and social media campaigns. This role will suit an individual who loves working with people and has an eye for detail.

About CÉIM
CÉIM is an academic peer support scheme based on the Peer Assisted Study Sessions / Peer Assisted Learning (PASS/PAL) model. CÉIM supports 1st year students’ transition to higher education, health and wellbeing, academic success, progression and development of transferable skills. Delivered via a partnership between students, academic staff and the Students’ Union, CÉIM will be offered to approximately 2,000 or 50%+ of University of Galway 1st year students from September 2023. The Graduate Intern will be employed by University of Galway Students’ Union on a three-year contract.
Contract duration: Mid-August 2023 – Mid-August 2026
Working days: Monday-Friday (7 hours per day)
Working location: University of Galway campus with the option to work from home on Fridays

 

Job Description
Drawing on your comprehensive experience of peer learning, you will:
• Be proactive in liaising regularly with student leaders, and provide targeted coaching to individual student leaders and groups of student leaders.
• Manage a repository of peer learning activity ideas, and develop new content for this.
• Provide occasional hands-on support to leaders in peer learning sessions.
• Make presentations about CÉIM to large groups of students and to academic staff.
• Collate data for research and evaluation purposes.
• Organise materials for student leaders and weekly meetings.
• Manage, attend and deliver weekly meetings with students and academic staff.
• Design training content and deliver training to student leaders on peer learning strategies and activities, information technology, health and wellbeing and other relevant topics.
• Create and manage timely and engaging social media campaigns.
• Develop marketing materials and update the CÉIM website.
• Work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across University of Galway including support units and academic staff.
• Handle day-to-day tasks to ensure the smooth running of CÉIM.
• Provide general programme and administrative support.
• Work with various IT systems to support the efficient delivery of the programme.
• Develop and run well-attended social events for students.
• Seek feedback from students and develop strategies to act on this feedback.
• Support the CÉIM Director and CÉIM Administrator with various duties as they arise.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time.

 

Requirements
• An undergraduate degree in any discipline.
• Experience of leading peer learning sessions.
• A solid understanding of the CÉIM programme.
• An interest in supporting students to make the most of their time at university, small group facilitation, independent learning and inclusion.
• Very strong organisational and administration skills.
• Experienced Microsoft Office user.
• Experience with a variety of IT systems and social media platforms.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Confident presenting to large groups.
• Friendly, professional and inclusive manner with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Highly adaptable with excellent problem solving skills.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to deadlines and deliverables.
• The capacity to acquire new skills and apply them to the role.
