If you’re moving out soon and have items that you no longer need please consider donating them to the following appeals:

  1. Students’ Union – Lab Coats and Goggles

We are collecting lab coats and goggles in the SU Office until 5pm Friday 3rd of May. These will be passed on to students who need them in September.

  1. SU Hygiene Hub Donation Day – new, unused, in-date personal care and household cleaning essentials (10am-5pm Fri 26th April)

We’re looking for new, unused, in-date personal care and household cleaning essentials – including deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, make-up, nappies, toilet roll, laundry detergent and surface cleaner. If you use a particular item, chances are someone else needs it too. Donation FAQ’s here. Your donations will go to The Hygiene Hub’s community partners in Galway who include COPE Galway, Galway Simon Community and Galway Traveller Movement. Items can be donated in the SU Office until 5pm Fri 26th April.

  1. Galway Sanctuary Runners –  Adult Running Shoes and Raincoats

These will be donated to refugees and people seeking international protection so that they can join the Galway Sanctuary Runners Community Running Group. More info HERE.

  1. An Mheitheal Rothar – Bikes

If you’ve an old bike in good condition, An Mheitheal Rothar would love to give it a new lease of life. Donated bikes provide hours of training for their trainee mechanics. The finished bikes are sold at affordable prices or donated to those in need, such as refugees. More info HERE.

  1. School of Education Charity Drive – Bed Linen, Towels, Hygiene products, Rain Jackets, Sports Gear and Children’s Books

Please consider donating any new or gently used bed linens and towels, hygiene products, rain jackets and boots, sports gear, or children’s books for local DEIS primary school students on Friday 19th April (3-6pm) and Saturday 20th April (10am-3pm) at the University of Galway School of Education Building on Nun’s Island, or contact Katie Kaufman (k.kaufman1@universityofgalway.ie) with any queries.

7. Glassary 

Glassary Recycling Initiative Fri 26th April to Friday 4th May in the Goldcrest Village Common Room. Pass on lightly used homewares to charities, fellow students and the community.

What they CAN accept: Clothes, shoes, towels. Hygiene + Menstrual products. Decor, home and kitchenware. Unopened food. Working/non-working electronics. Cleaning + laundry products. Books/Stationary
What they CAN’T accept: Heavily used clothes. Duvets/mattress protectors. Opened foods. Underwear/socks/rubbish
