An online resource of traditional Irish songs, innovatively arranged for choirs. The CÓR will include scores and recordings of such songs by staff and students at NUI Galway. As many of these songs are currently difficult to obtain, the project will make them available to a global audience.
Projecet Update – 25 April 2014:
- The project team has set up an early-stage website, which will eventually become the full CÓR website.
Project Update – 21 February 2014:
- We have scored and recorded our first piece: Caoineadh na dTrí Mhuire
- We are almost finished scoring our second piece: Eleanor, a Rúin
- We have learned that arranging sean-nós songs for choirs is a time-consuming process because of the intricate melodies and ornamentation in the original songs, and the challenge of translating solo performances into four-part harmony
- Once we have Eleanor, a Rúin recorded we will create the CÓR website and make the two scores and tracks available online
- The staff and student choirs will be representing the University in the Kiltimagh Choral Festival on March 1
