Comhairle Notes

Construction of the new university library and learning centre on the south campus is rapidly progressing. The existing university library in operation, the Hardiman library, is earmarked to be handed over solely to the College of Science and Engineering, whenever the new one is completed.

Comhairle Notes

That many university programmes do not actively have any focused space for the peer-based learning that they entail. Some courses are frequently moved across opposite ends of campus for different classes, while some have to move rooms halfway through 2-hour seminars.

Comhairle believes

That the Hardiman library, and the vast amount of group and peer learning facilities it possesses, would be better suited to being divided for use by the entire college body according to who needs it, rather than being given solely to one college.

Comhairle Notes

Several departments within the student and staff body have already raised concerns as to the lack of learning space, and the Hardiman library being given exclusively to Science and Engineering. Campaigns are active within these departments for a fairer re-distribution of the Hardiman facilities.

Comhairle Mandates

The Executive Committee to assist the various faculties in advocating for a more even distribution of the resources of the Hardiman library.
