Spéir
Spéir- the SU Pantry is a system where food is collected through FoodCloud, a system creating links with local supermarkets to redistribute food and reduce food waste.

The collections consist of surplus food, food with damaged packaging, end of line items and food that is nearing its sell by and best before date. This food is then distributed to students attending the University of Galway instead of ending up in landfill, with the pantry aimed at reducing large amounts of waste in supermarkets.
This initiative has a huge effect on combating carbon emissions through diverting food from landfill’s. This allows University of Galway students to live more sustainably at no cost.
Spéir, the SU Pantry, is operated Monday’s and Friday’s and students wishing to avail of the pantry must first register online at www.yourspace.universityofgalway.ie.
Slots for the Pantry are allocated on a lottery system. Student’s are required to bring their Student ID card to gain access for their allotted slot.
Spéir, the SU Pantry, is currently open 2pm + 3.30pm each Monday + Friday in the Library Basement during term time.
- Monday slot applications are open 5pm Friday to 6pm Sunday
- Friday slot applications are open 10am Tuesday to 4pm Thursday
