This December for our Charity Challenge we are going to spread positivity wherever we go with our Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Challenge. We will have daily suggestions for Random Acts of Kindness that you can do or you can come up with your own ones. The RAK challenge motto is do good, feel good! You can commit to taking part in as many RAKs as you want from 1 to 30 over the month! All funds raised during the challenge will go to the SU Charities who are: Galway Rape Crisis Centre, Galway Autism Partnership and Helplink Mental Health via our fundraising page HERE.

Sign the International Students Petition
International students have not been adequately considered in Ireland’s COVID-19 response. They are calling on the Government to:
- Resolve the immigration appointment and application backlogs
- Re-classify international students to avoid unreasonable healthcare costs
- Consider international students when making policy decisions

HEAR/Access Fund + PME Fund are now closed. There’s no fixed closing date for the Means Tested Fund + the Hardship Fund but funding is limited so apply as soon as you can. More info.

The NUIG Galway Energy Efficient Car, GEEC, is currently in first place in the Global Shell Eco Marathon Virtual Competition after participating in the Pitch the Future competition. Registering with NUIG Disability Support Service (DSS)
Students with evidence of a disability, long-term physical or mental health condition, or a specific learning disability should register with the DSS. You only need to register with the DSS once and this remains in place for the duration of your course. You can register with the DSS at any stage during your studies; however, it is recommended that you register as soon as possible after starting your course or receiving a diagnosis. More info.

Survey Being a Student during Covid-19
This is a survey about being a student during the time of COVID-19 and is intended for NUIG students ONLY. It is being undertaken as part of a module in Research Methods. Thinking about doing a postgraduate course?
The NUI Galway VIRTUAL Postgraduate Open Day will take place next Tuesday, 24th November. The event will comprise of a series of live presentations taking place during the day featuring all Colleges and postgrad courses, and also such topics as employability, funding opportunities, applications, research, and personal statements. This is your opportunity to virtually meet lecturers and postgraduate students, see what postgraduate programmes are on offer, and to talk online with staff from Postgraduate Admissions, Career Development Centre, Graduate Studies, Fees Office, and other student support services. Students – do you know that Blackboard Ally allows you to access more user-friendly file formats for online learning? It is very easy to use and can be really helpful. Simply click on the ‘A’ beside a file! You can get an audio version of a document, or you can download formats that are easier to read on a phone or mobile device. You can learn more HERE
If you want to win while you run join the NUIG Sport Strava Cub. This is a virtual running group where challenges will be set each week and weekly prizes to the value of €50 will be up for grabs. It’s a great incentive to get outside and stay active!
Notion is a task tracking app that allows you to set up checklists, calendars, task tables etc., You can add due dates and attach documents to tasks. It can be downloaded on all Android, iOS and Windows devices. By setting up an account with your NUIG email, you can get a Personal Pro plan for free (go to setting > plans > personal pro > upgrade)
The Misleór Festival runs 19th-21st Nov celebrating the heritage of nomadic cultures. Join their online festival featuring music, art, storytelling, poetry and cinema from around the world. More info.
The Big Big Science Quiz

Mature Students Drop-In Clinics
Weekly drop-In Clinics are available for all NUIG Mature Students. The clinics are hosted by your SU Mature Students’ Officer Michelle Mitchell on Zoom and are on 10am-12pm Tuesdays and 2pm-4pm Thursdays (links below). There are now an extra 50 seats that are bookable Mon-Fri 9am-5pm for 2 hour slots in the Bailey Allen Hall via the library website. This is an interactive learning space with individual pods with sockets so you can talk on Zoom calls or attend your CÉIM sessions. The Library is now open Mon-Fri 08:30-22:00 Sat 08:30-17:30 Sun 10:00-17:30. Please remember to book your library seat first here.
Our November Charity Challenge is the Kilometre Challenge which runs until Mon 30th Nov and you can still join in! You set yourself a personal goal for each month based around each charity challenge theme so this month you pick a number of kilometres to cover and you can do this by walking, running or on wheels. It’s not a one size fits all event – you know your own capabilities so you do you! More info + Registration link here.
