Road Safety Awareness Day

  • 10am-5pm Road Safety Awareness Day – breathalyser testing, free high vis and car air fresheners at the SU Office while stocks last! The RSA FlineBox is a breathalyser machine for testing alcohol levels. Just insert a straw, breathe into the device and get your result in seconds. You’ll instantly see if you’re fit to drive, how long to wait, and what risks you face if you’re over the limit.

Tuesday 7th October | Dé Máirt  an 7 Deireadh Fómhair

  • 6.30pm-7.30pm Jigsaw 5 A Day for Mental Health Online Workshop. Free online workshop to help you learn strategies to build + take care of your mental health. Book HERE.

Feel Good Fair

  • 10am-2pm Marie Keating Mobile Information Unit outside Áras na Mac Léinn. Staffed by a specialist nurse, the mobile information unit is stocked with take-home information leaflets and packs on the various cancers. The nurse can talk to you in a private area on board the unit about any concerns that you may have about cancer, either for yourself or for someone else such as a family member or friend. 
  • 11am-3pm Feel Good Fair stands in Áras na Mac Léinn. Call down to meet the Road Safety Authority, the Irish Blood Transfusion Service, Galway Samaritans, GOAL, Western Region Drug & Alcohol Task Force, the University Counselling Team, the University Sexual Violence & Harassment support staff and, of course, your Students’ Union will be there too! We’ll also have a bake sale in aid of the SU Charities – Galway Rape Crisis Centre and GOAL.
  • 11am-3pm Pop Up Charity Shop with Galway Simon Community in the Cube. Call down and get some retail therapy in for a good cause!

Friday 10th October | Dé hAoine an 10 Deireadh Fómhair

World Mental Health Day

  • All day GOAL Jersey Day – wear your favourite jersey to campus and support GOAL.
  • All day take the Ohana Free ZERO suicide training online HERE and gain the skills to save a life. This training, which takes approximately 20 minutes, focuses on breaking stigma and encouraging open conversations.
  • 9.30am-1pm safeTALK Training. safeTALK is a 3½ hour ‘suicide alertness’ programme that prepares participants (over the age of 18 yrs.) to identify and engage with persons who may be having thoughts of suicide. Participants learn how to provide practical help by using the steps of TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keepsafe) and also gain information on the supports and resources available locally, regionally and nationally.
