Digital Champions Workshop Series 2026

Digital Champions is a staff and student partnership running at University of Galway. Their aim is to provide staff and students with opportunities to improve their awareness and confidence in using digital technologies.

Each semester they run a series of FREE workshops which are open to both staff and students.

 

1. Intro to MakerSpace & 3D Design

MakerSpace is a fantastic space for students and staff with lots of opportunities to make, create, design and have fun! This workshop will introduce participants to the Library MakerSpace and 3D Design. You will learn about all the fantastic resources the MakerSpace including the equipment pool and their suite of machines with highly spec’d software.

 

This workshop takes place 2pm-3pm Tues 27th Jan 2026 in the Library Training Room

 

2. Laser Cutting with MakerSpace

This workshop will introduce you to laser cutting with MakerSpace. The MakerSpace is a fantastic space for students and staff with lots of opportunities to make, create, design and have fun!

 

This workshop takes place 2pm-3pm Weds 4th Feb 2026 in the Library Training Room.

 

3. Design

Our Design workshop is one of our most popular. This workshop is an interactive, practical and fun session to introduce you to the principles of design. We will share tools and resources to support you creating great visuals and presentations for all your projects.

 

This workshop takes place 11am-1pm Weds 11th Feb 2026 in Meeting Room 1 & 2 in Áras na Mac Léinn

 

4. Video

Our video workshop will be a hands-on, practical and fun. We’ll take you through the video process, and explore video software & tools. As well as this, we’ll look at useful video equipment options and bring some of our own equipment to demonstrate what’s useful.

This workshop takes place 11am-1pm Weds 4th March 2026 in Meeting Room 1 & 2 Áras na Mac Léinn

5. Podcasting

In our podcasting workshop participants will learn how to find & subscribe to podcasts, plan a podcast, explore the technologies to record and edit a podcast, and produce and publish their own short programme. You’ll also find out how to connect and set up microphones, apps, or other software and get started on creating a podcast, including editing different components together.

This workshop takes place 12noon-2pm Tues Mar 10th 2026 in Meeting Rooms 1 & 2, Áras na Mac Léinn.

Participants earn a digital badge for each of the workshops they attend and this year we have workshops with our Universal Skills Passport (USP) colleagues, to develop a higher level, “Digital Champions Creative Suite”, badge which participants earn if they attend 3 of our workshops – Design, Video and Podcasting. We’ll share more at our workshops.
