Election Nominations Close Tomorrow
Nominations close at 5pm tomorrow Fri 11th Dec for the 5 vacant SU Officer positions and you can apply to run for election HERE.
Positions to be filled are: Societies Chairperson, SU Council Chairperson, Convenor of the College of Business, Public Policy & Law, International Students Officer and Ethnic Minorities Officer.

Our last Hump Day Hoolie of 2020 will be a very merry Christmas party at 7.30pm Weds 16th Dec. Get your Christmas jumper, Santa hat and festive cheer ready to jingle all the way through Hump Day! Get your tickets here. The event is free but there’s a suggested donation of €5 which will all go to the SU Charities: Galway Rape Crisis Centre, Galway Autism Partnership and Helplink Mental Health. If you have enjoyed the Hoolies so far this year please give what you can! Good news is we will be back with more Hoolies in 2021!

CÉIM peer learning sessions for 1st year students finish the week of 7th December for Semester 1 and will resume the week of 15th February 2021. To connect with others over the Christmas/New Year period, 1st year students can email their Buddy/Study group members via the CÉIM YourSpace dashboard.

Become a LIFT Student Facilitator
You often hear about leadership but what does it really mean? You can be a leader from your kitchen table! NUIG is running a pilot this year and we are inviting you to sign up as a LiFT Student Facilitator. LiFT is an 8 week programme, about 40 minutes a week a small group meet online and complete an 8 part leadership development programme. Used widely in sports and industry it is now available to NUIG students. As a facilitator you are trained in the LiFT programme and you then lead your small group in 40 minute meet ups for 8 weeks.

Home Truths is an exhibition inspired by women’s testimonies of their experiences of and engagement with the Irish courts and legal system in dealing with domestic violence and abuse. The exhibition is running as part of the 16 days of Action Against Violence Against Women and at 2pm today Thurs 10th Dec it will culminate in a live streamed panel discussion via Galway 2020 to mark International Human Rights Day. Virtual Christmas Quiz Tonight
NUIG FLAC and Best Buddies Societies are hosting a Virtual Christmas Quiz at 7pm tonight in aid of Ability West. Sign up as a team or individual HERE. Prizes will be awarded on the night for the winners as well as the most festive team and best team name. They are asking for a minimum of €5 as this has been a really challenging year for Ability West as they have not been able to host their usual annual fundraisers due to COVID-19.

Mature Students Drop-In Clinics
Weekly drop-In Clinics are available for all Mature Students (anyone over 23 years of age) whether you are an Undergrad, Postgrad or Adult Education student. Here you can discuss issues, challenges, ideas, suggestions, and much more. The clinics are hosted by your SU Mature Students’ Officer Michelle Mitchell on Zoom and are on 10am-12pm Tuesdays and 2pm-4pm Thursdays (links below). When you enter the meeting, you will be placed in a waiting room. If you are not admitted immediately, please be patient as Michelle may be speaking with another student. Glassary – Sustainability Initiative for Students
Are you an international student departing Ireland in the coming months? Or are you simply an NUI Galway student who’d like to live more sustainably? Glassary (glas/green-glossary!) is a circular economy initiative which will be implemented at NUIG accommodations in December and January. Donate your leftover household items at an accommodation collection point to prevent them from going to waste! Want to learn Irish or improve the Irish you have? We will be holding Irish Language Classes Tues 12th Jan – Tues 2nd Feb 2021. It’s a 4 week course over Zoom with Conradh na Gaeilge. Complete Beginners 6pm-7pm and Improvers 7pm-8pm. Cost is €40 but you will be refunded €20 if you attend all classes and you get a certificate. Registration deadline Mon 21st Dec. Extra Study Space
There are now four options for study space on campus, which can all be booked through the Library booking system:
- The Library: Desk and PC access within a quiet study zone in the main Library building
- Bailey Allen Hall: Quiet study zone with space for 50 students
- The Cube: Noise-tolerant study zone with space for 20 student
- The Reading Room: Space for 20 students

ComputerDISC is a Computer Programming Drop-In Support Centre for all students who are taking any programming/software development courses.
The Academic Writing Centre provide free one-on-one tutorials on essay writing.
The SU Grinds Register provides details of tutors in a wide range of subjects.
This December for our Charity Challenge we are going to spread positivity wherever we go with our Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Challenge. We will have daily suggestions for Random Acts of Kindness that you can do or you can come up with your own ones. The RAK challenge motto is do good, feel good! You can commit to taking part in as many RAKs as you want from 1 to 31 over the month! All funds raised during the challenge will go to the SU Charities who are: Galway Rape Crisis Centre, Galway Autism Partnership and Helplink Mental Health via our fundraising page HERE.
