The Irish Government limits student visas (Stamp 2) to a maximum of 7 years.

Council notes with concern
Education is a right, not a privilege, and anyone pursuing higher education in the State should not be prevented from doing so unnecessarily.
Council recognises
This 7-year limit is arbitrary and negatively impacts students & researchers finishing and continuing on to additional educational programmes.
Council further notes
Stamp 2 visas convey minimal rights to their holders, also representing minimal risk to the State, thus should not carry additional restrictions without sound reasoning.
Council mandates
CMLOG will lobby USI and Government to reconsider, and ideally remove, the 7-year limit on Stamp 2 visas.
