5 A Day for Mental Health Workshops

We have teamed up with Jigsaw to bring you this free 1 hour workshop which aims to provide young adults, aged 17 – 25 in third level educational settings, with the strategies necessary to build and take care of their own mental health. The workshop takes place 5.30pm-6.30pm Mon 29th March via Zoom. More info and sign up here.

The Student Achievement Awards Ireland is the annual opportunity for the student movement in Ireland to recognise the contribution of students to improving the experience of their fellow students, and to wider society. Energy Society Table Quiz 6.30pm Fri 5th March

NUIG Energy Society is hosting an online Table Quiz with loads of fun categories like music, picture, and themed rounds. Participants may enter as a team of those in their household, or as individuals. Prizes include society gear, eco-gifts, and Deliveroo vouchers. Entry is €3 per person and proceeds go towards funding local sustainability and environmental protection projects in Galway. Tickets may be bought HERE 

 

Free Rapid HV testing 

Sexual Health West offers free rapid HIV testing. Free rapid testing is completely confidential and only takes a couple of minutes to get results. During the current climate, we are in the process of planning for testing dates and locations for the coming months. Follow Sexual Health West on social media for updates.

 

NUIG International Women’s Week Events

 

Volunteering during the Covid-19 pandemic: an investigation of the motivations, benefits, challenges, and concerns associated with volunteering formally or informally during a global health crisis

This study explores people’s volunteering experiences during COVID-19. The survey is open to anyone who volunteered at any stage during the pandemic and should take 5-10 minutes to complete. Link for more information HERE

Eye on the Edge Galway 2021 – Call for Proposals

We are inviting you to send your proposals for Eye on the Edge 2021 an online festival curated and created by young people taking place from the 23rd- 25th of April. Our core theme and message is DIVERSE VOICES we want to celebrate diversity and bring together diverse opinions, groups and solutions to some of the most important issues we face today’s climate change, racism. Isolation and mental health amongst others. We want you to get involved! Are you between the ages of 14-30? Do you have a fresh idea for a panel discussion, workshop or musical performance? Student Accommodation Bill Launch Today

The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) are today launching their Student Accommodation Bill which aims to protect students who are renting during the Covid-19 pandemic. Please take part in the campaign launch today by contacting your local representatives and making some noise on social media about the need for this bill to be passed. Traveller Ethnicity Day Monday 1st March

NUIG is hosting a day long series of online events this Monday 1st of March as part of Traveller Ethnicity Day. Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris, will officially launch the event and the Travellers in Higher Education: Building a Sense of Belonging documentary at 10am. The online events throughout the day are suitable for teachers, students, and the general public. More information and registration HERE.

Join us at 7pm TONIGHT Thurs 25th of Feb for an International Alumni Session. NUIG alumni will be participating in a panel discussion where they will outline their journey of finding employment upon graduating. Keep Well, Study Well Week

NUIG Keep Well Study Well Week takes place 1st-5th of March with lots of great free events taking place. There’ll be daily Kingfisher classes, a forum on Surviving Your Sanity on Monday, a magician on Friday, a sleep workshop on Wednesday at 11am, an insight into the life of a female student athlete on Thursday, a wellness workshop on Thursday at 1pm and the NUIG Sport Strava Group will keep you moving (Search NUI Galway in Strava Clubs). Exploring young people’s experiences of the guidelines for physical distancing during COVID-19

This study is examining the barriers and facilitators to physical distancing as well as the psychosocial development of young people whilst adhering to physical distancing guidelines. Participants must be aged between 18-25 years. The study involves taking photos and attending a one-to-one interview with the researcher about the young person’s experiences of physical distancing (where their photos will be used as prompts).
