
Heartsaver AED Course – Irish Heart Foundation/American Heart Association (IHF/AHA)
Course Aim:
This is suitable for anyone who wants to learn CPR, treatment of foreign body airway obstruction and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
This is suitable for Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians, Audiologists, Counsellors, Social Workers, Pharmacy Technicians, Psychologist, Podiatrists, Dental Nurses and Hygienists & Care Assistants. (Some allied health professionals may opt for BLS for Healthcare Provider course)
The complete Heartsaver AED Course takes approximately four hours to complete and teaches the basic techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the relief of choking for adults, children and infants.

Assessment & Certification:
The Heartsaver AED course follows a practice-while-watching video format and is led by instructors who will provide feedback and guide you through the lessons and
help improve your CPR technique as you practice on a manikin.
Participants who can demonstrate high quality CPR at the end of the course will receive an IHF/AHA Heartsaver AED course certificate which is valid for two years.

6 WEEKS PILATES FLOW
Description:
A 45-50 minute class focusing on improving flexibility, mobility, core strength and stability. Providing you with a space to become aware of the way your body moves- creating that mind-body connection.
Each week will be a whole body movement experience consisting of a particular sequence of exercises which will be repeated throughout the class. It will seem like you are constantly moving or flowing.
Each week will have a different theme and sequence of exercises.
Dates/Times 2024 Course:
6.30pm-7.30pm Monday 15th January – Monday 19th February 2024
Course Venue: Zoom. Class recording will be emailed to you the next day and will be accessible until Sunday for you to catch up or repeat the class.
Please Note: Classes on Monday 29th January and Monday 5th February 2024 will be recordings and not live classes due to holidays.

Basic Course Unit 101
More info: This basic introductory course in Irish Sign Language runs over 10 weeks with a 1 hour class each week in person on campus. The course equips students with enough sign language to introduce themselves and conduct a fairly basic conversation with another sign language user. Participants may expect to learn the manual alphabet and some vocabulary associated with everyday conversation. There is some emphasis on conversational practice. Students are expected to attend no less than 80% of the course.
Assessment & Certification: Students will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course. Students should have at least 80% attendance.
Cost: €40 including handouts via email (usual price €75). University of Galway Staff Price €75 – two staff spaces available in each course.
