Christmas Exam Buses Monday 2nd December – Monday 16th December 2013
NUI Galway Students’ Union in partnership with City Direct Bus has organised a Christmas Exam Bus service from NUI Galway to the Salthill Exam Venues of Leisureland and the Galway Bay Hotel. Buses will leave University Road bus stop 30 minutes before the exam starts and will provide a non-stop service to Leisureland. Return buses will leave from Leisureland 10 minutes after the exam finishes and drop students back to University Road.
Cost: €2 per journey.
SU Enterprise Awards 2014 €23,000 Prize Fund
The NUI Galway Students’ Union Enterprise Awards aim to unlock the potential of the students of NUI Galway to invest in their own futures today.
If you have an idea for a new business or a social enterprise then this can be the competition that can allow you to realise your goal. Students are invited to sketch out the initial proposals for their project or business and to draw up the plans they hope will make their idea a reality. The finalists will be given the chance to take their ideas forward and to set about implementing their projects with the assistance of a financial allowance, workshops and clinics.
The overall winner will receive a direct investment of €10,000 in their project to really help get it off the ground in addition to further guidance and mentoring to help bring the project forward, while two runners up prizes, each valued at €5,000 will also be awarded. The six final projects going through to the second stage of the competition will each receive a €500 bursary.

NUI Galway Students’ Union Christmas Day comes early again this year. We are holding a massive Christmas Day fundraiser in the College Bar on Thursday 21st of November to raise money for Galway Rape Crisis Centre and ISPCC/Childline. There will be a traditional Christmas dinner, carols, cheesy Christmas tunes with DJ Byrno and lots of prizes for the best/worst Christmas jumpers along with a whole lot of other Festive merriment! Get your tinsel, mistletoe and jumper ready now!
Santa also needs some helpers volunteers to assist with the fundraising on the day so if you have an hour or two to spare between 11am and 6pm on Thursday 21st December email studentsunion@nuigalway.ie to sign up and you will definitely be on Santa’s nice list this year.
NUI Galway Students’ Union is supporting the We’re Not Leaving – Galway campaign and encouraging all students to attend the Youth Assembly in Dublin on Saturday the 9th of November. We are providing a return bus to the assembly and tickets are on sale for €2 from the Students’ Union now. We will be leaving at 9am on Saturday.
Aims of the assembly:
– To build a campaign that unites students, young workers and the unemployed to address the youth crisis.
– To produce a youth charter, which articulates demands to be placed on representative bodies, the state and society and which articulates a divergent social vision from the path of austerity Ireland on behalf of young people.
– To build a democratic infrastructure on the basis of this charter that can reinvigorate youth politics locally and nationally.
You can also attend the Galway meeting this Thursday 7th November 2013 at 8pm in the Victoria Hotel.
White Collar Fight Night 14th November
The NUI Galway Students’ Union White Collar Fight Night is back on Thursday 14th November in the Bailey Allen Hall. The event is in aid of the SU Charities: Galway Rape Crisis Centre and ISPCC/Childline. Doors 7pm, first fight 7.45pm. Tickets on sale in the SU office Monday 4th November: €12 for adults, €7.50 for students, under 18’s & OAPs. Children under 12 go free.
The NUI Galway Students’ Union 2014 Naked Calendar is on sale NOW. 63 brave NUI Galway students revealed all for the calendar and you can get an eyeful for only €5! Calendars are on sale from the Students’ Union Office, the SU Shop, the SocsBox, our desk at Smokey’s and the SU desk in the Engineering Building. All proceeds go to the SU Charities for 2013/14: Galway Rape Crisis Centre and ISPCC/Childline.
Groups taking part included the Kayak Club, the Business Society, the Women’s Rugby Team, the Orchestra, the Lotus Yoga Society, the Dance Society, the Campus newspaper Sin, the Mountain Bike club and of course the Students’ Union officers.
